Orrin Hatch jokes about new invisible glasses after attempt to remove non-existent pair goes viral
Sen. Orrin Hatch joked about his new invisible glasses after an attempt to remove a non-existent pair from his face sent the internet into a meltdown.
The 83-year-old was in the middle of questioning Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen on Tuesday when he reached up for his glasses with both hands along the sides of his face.
If Hatch was surprised to find nothing there, he certainly didn’t show it, and his seamless follow through left the internet in stitches on Tuesday after a video of the bizarre moment went viral.
Hatch got in on the joke and responded on Twitter by writing, “Oh you mean his invisible glasses from Warby Parker? They’re new, you’ve probably never heard of them.”
Hatch’s communications director Matt Whitlock chalked it up to “muscle memory” and his office later explained on Twitter that the senator forgot his glasses at home.
While the viral video racked up millions of views, bespectacled Twitter users chimed in with sympathy.
"Everyone who thinks this is strange has never worn glasses," Morgan Housel wrote.
"I *cannot* make fun of this because I do it ALL THE TIME," Twitter user Aimee Giese wrote.
