NBC wiping ‘Today’ show of Matt Lauer allies

NBC wiping ‘Today’ show of Matt Lauer allies
All Matt Lauer-linked talent is being axed at “Today” in the wake of the disgraced anchor’s departure, including his favorite producer and contributors — possibly including chef Giada de Laurentiis.
While trumpeting that Katie Couric is returning to NBC to co-host the Olympics opening, the network on Tuesday quietly announced that Lauer’s top producer, Don Nash, “has decided to step away from his executive producer role at ‘Today’ ” after nearly 30 years at the show.
An NBC insider told Page Six, “Don is one of the nicest guys in the business, but he was part of ‘Matt’s club’ headed by [former ‘Today’ EP] Jim Bell. They deny covering up for Matt, but they certainly catered to him, and they are very much entrenched in Lauer’s legacy.”
Nash had insisted he had no idea about Lauer’s “sexual misconduct in the workplace.” He previously told Page Six in a statement, “Never once has any woman or man complained to me about Matt Lauer. If they had, I would have gone straight to HR.” Nash has not been accused of any sexual misconduct.
Food Network’s de Laurentiis — who denied an affair with Lauer after they were spotted together on the beach in Barbados in 2011 and at a cozy dinner alone in New York in 2013 — could also see her “Today” bookings dry up. The source added, “Matt always had the final say on show experts, but now they want new blood. They want more diversity.” A de Laurentiis rep said, “Not true.
“Giada will still be making her appearances on ‘Today’ and we are currently working on her schedule to confirm.” But she certainly hasn’t been on the show for a while.
Meanwhile, NBC is “taking issue” with former co-anchor Ann Curry’s claim on CBS that “there was a climate of verbal harassment that existed [at ‘Today’].”
An NBC insider said, “Ann was an anchor, she had the power to raise this with NBC, but she didn’t.” But another source fired back, “Ann tried to challenge Matt, and look what happened: He publicly hung her out to dry.”
Reps for “Today” didn’t comment.
