Deputies: Mother and 2 kids killed in mobile home fire
A mother and her two children have died in a mobile home fire early Wednesday near Huffman, the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office confirmed.
The fire engulfed a mobile home on Cherry Laurel Street in northeast Harris County about 4 a.m. , though the cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
Captain Dean Hensley in the fire marshal's office said the father was able to escape from the fire, but was transported to the hospital with injuries and burns Hensley said the man may have endured while trying to rescue the family.
Hensley said the ages of the two children were not clear. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez initially said three children between the ages of 10 and 15 lived in the home, and that the mother was in her 30s. Hensley said the possible third child did not live inside the mobile home. (Gonzalez had said in an earlier report that the third child had also died but later issued a correction.)
Hensley said investigators are on scene trying to determine what caused the fire.
